Hugh Mackay Carpets all started with 11 looms in a Durham shed, founded by Hugh Mackay himself during 1903 with an ethos built on keeping quality carpet-making alive within the region. With the help of Mackay’s son, the family business was soon bustling with happy customers and only continued to grow, becoming close-knit with the Royal Family in 1929 after a 5-frame Wilton Loom installation at the North East Coast Exhibition, operated by the Prince of Wales.

This relationship saw Hugh Mackay Carpets bestowed with the Royal Warrant during 1972, offering the highest acknowledgement of their quality flooring services. The subsequent demand for the business brought them a global reach, with overseas factories producing more and more of their highly sought after flooring solutions.
